Susan Zuidema, RP (Qualifying)
My path has been shaped by decades of life experience—parenting, navigating divorce and remarriage, over ten years of teaching, and ongoing advocacy for those facing homelessness, addiction, trauma, and mental illness. I’ve seen firsthand how resilience grows in the face of challenges. I’m passionate about helping people work through the barriers that stand in the way of a full and meaningful life.
Therapy is most effective when you feel safe, heard, and truly understood. I aim to create that kind of space – one where you feel supported as we explore your challenges, strengths, and the resources around you. We’ll build on this to create a plan that fits your needs and helps you move forward.
I’m working toward certification in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT—see below) and have also been trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma. As a lifelong learner, I’m always seeking to deepen my understanding and enhance my practice to better support those I work with.
As a Christian, I believe that healing is meant for the entire person: mind, body, and soul. For those who request it, I am prepared to respectfully integrate prayer and Scripture with other elements of your therapy.

Summary of Education, Training, & Qualifications
In May 2025, I will complete my M. Div. in Clinical Counselling at Tyndale University. I have focused my studies on going deep into trauma including studying the Theoretical and Clinical Perspectives in Trauma and Therapy Interventions for Trauma, Abuse, and Violence. I have also taken courses in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT: see below) and the Spiritual Care of the Dying and Grieving.
Tyndale’s Clinical Counselling program digs into Family Systems and includes training in core modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, something I have studied more independently and also use in my work with clients.
EFT is the gold standard for couples therapy. Experiential in nature and based on attachment theory, it helps a couple become unstuck from their negative cycle. By working through difficult emotions and patterns, the couple can learn a better way of connecting, and create a secure bond.
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
I am so excited about EFIT! Rooted in attachment science, it applies the principles from EFT for couples (above) to individual therapeutic work. This allows us to get to the root of attachment-based issues, resolving trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship problems. I am currently on a path to complete my certification in this modality in 2025. Click here for more information about EFIT.
Cognitive Processing Therapy
CPT is an evidence-based trauma treatment, generally delivered over 12 sessions. It teaches you how to challenge and modify unhelpful beliefs related to the trauma. You will create a new understanding of the traumatic event and reduce its ongoing negative effects on your life. Click here for more information.
