Susan Zuidema certified as an Emotionally Focused Individual Therapist

Susan ZuidemaI’m excited and honoured to share that I am now an ICEEFT Certified Therapist for EFIT!

Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) is an evidence-based, attachment-focused approach that helps people better understand themselves, heal emotional wounds, and create lasting change.

This certification reflects a deep commitment to training, supervision, and to helping clients feel understood, supported, and less alone in their struggles.

It’s also my honour to share some words from my supervisor and trainer about my work.

From Herman Chow, EFT Supervisor:

I’m delighted to announce a new EFIT Therapist in Toronto: Susan Zuidema, RP.

I had the privilege of teaching Susan in graduate school and supervising her EFT clinical work. She is a dedicated, skilled, and deeply compassionate therapist who truly meets and joins her clients in their pain. Susan attunes with sensitivity, embodies the spirit of EFT, and helps clients access and experience their fear in a tangible, transformative way. She then facilitates corrective emotional experiences by evoking supportive attachment figures to engage and care for those fearful parts.

Susan, we warmly welcome you as a member of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy Certified Therapists community. I look forward to seeing your continued growth and impact.

This is what EFT Trainer, Senem Zeytinoğlu Saydam, said:

Overall, this tape clearly demonstrates your solid grasp of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy and your ability to embody the EFIT stance in moment-to-moment clinical practice. In particular, your pacing and emotional attunement stood out as notable strengths. Your slow, deliberate rhythm allowed the client’s space to contact her inner experience without pressure, and your consistent emotional attunement created a sense of safety and containment that supported deep emotional engagement.

You demonstrated an excellent capacity to track the client’s affect and respond with sensitivity to her emotional shifts. Your reflections were warm, precise, and grounded in her lived experience, helping her stay connected to vulnerable emotion rather than moving prematurely into cognition or problem-solving. This attuned presence supported your client in remaining emotionally engaged and facilitated meaningful therapeutic movement.
